The forum chair will be the Hon. Elizabeth Evatt AC (former Chief Justice of the Family Court of Australia). The speakers present at the forum comprise of the Hon. Pat O' Shane AM (former magistrate and first-ever Aboriginal Barrister), Professor Eileen Baldry (President of SW Council of Social Services & Professor of Criminology at UNSW) and Kat Armstrong (director WIPAN).
These speakers will be addressing issues in relation to present issues in the system; focusing on the sentencing, prison conditions and after care of women in prison. This concerns remand, sexual assault and domestic violence, gender specific health care, mental health and cognitive disabilities, strip searches, contact with family and homelessness; along with other prominent issues.
There will also be an opportunity for the audience to ask specific questions of the speakers from an open floor. The primary paper that will be referred to in the forum can be downloaded here.
Join us as we explore this complex and often confusing issue. To book your place at this forum, RSVP according to the instructions here.
Cost: Adults $20; students/concession $10 cash or cheque only.
