This case is fantastic! It covers ground that exposes the thorough erosion of so much good in our society, the issues themselves become clouded by disbelief that this has happened at all.

DAY 31

18th March 2003

Witness - Patricia Roy
Current - Stated in court that someone had been to her property when she was away overnight last weekend. When she returned she found one of her dogs dead, hanging by the neck on a chain. A Rottweiler she has for 9 yrs.. also house broken into - papers were taken and additional tapes of conversations, taken by her answering machine which were to be put before the court today.

Some history of dealings with Barry Catt. She said Barry Catt had on separate occassions

1. attacked her with a paint scraper and knife.

2. attempted to force his way into her house - she called police. Even though she had asked police to arrest him, they said they could not arrest him on private property. Police took him from house and left him outside the front gate of her property. Property is approx 1 1/2 hours drive from police station.

3. has received many abusive and threatening phone calls from Barry Catt. Some of these conversations have been recorded by her answering machine and have been admitted into evidence today (these were tapes already in Sydney) Also entered into evidence was a copy of a telephone account showing numerous calls made from Barry Catt's telephone to her mobile and her fathers home. When asked to recall a specific threat using as closely as possible the actual words spoken by Barry she said "..put Rosanne in jail, if I (Patricia) call the police he (Barry) will put me in jail as well".

4. Mentioned that G Fellows (defence witness) asked if he could stay on her property approx 2 yrs ago. When she saw him he was quite stressed and in poor physical condition.

5. Sought to have AVO against Barry Catt in Taree court however it was refused. The magistrate saw her in chambers, not in open court. In court today she was asked did she have evidence to support this "yes an assault charge.. when he broke my nose". Also stated that the magistrate was a friend of Barry Catt.

Another time she sought to take out an AVO she said she believed the charges were dropped because she did not attend court. Reason - she said she did not receive a notice and although rang the police a few times to find out the court date could not find out the date.

Said she had seen a privately made video recording of Rosanne Catts arrest - she said "you can hear Barry Catt and a woman's voice on the recording. Barry Catt had shown it to her at his place.

This is just some of the evidence given today. She will be in the witness box again tomorrow.
